HELSTAR: Basic Tracks Completed For New 'Best-Of' Album
July 21, 2007Texas metal legends HELSTAR recently signed a deal with AFM Records. The band is currently in the studio re-recording some of its early classics for a "best-of" album, to be released on November 19. The CD will also contain two brand new tracks. An all-new album of original HELSTAR material is tentatively due next summer. The group's frontman, James Rivera, has issued the following update:
"As of last Thursday, July 12, the band completed the basic tracking of the new album, guitar solos and all. The basic tracks were recorded at Bravo Studios in Houston, TX. And trust me — these simply being the basic tracks, this album will be heavy and dark! As for the vocals, I am on my metal crusade to the western hemisphere of the U.S. My first stretch of the journey began Tuesday, July 17, from Houston to El Paso, which believe it or not, is half of the trip to L.A.; that's how big Texas is! There I stayed with a metal comrade from INNOCENT EXILE, one of the best bands in the area. From El Paso my next stop will be Flagstaff, AZ; a small town that is rumored to have the best climate in the U.S. Following Flagstaff, I will then travel to Las Vegas, NV, where I've managed to squeeze in two shows in the area with my BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST tribute entitled SABBATH JUDAS SABBATH. From there it's on to Bill Metoyer's in Northridge, CA where the screams from Hel will begin! Once I have arrived and begun recording, I will send another update."
Formed in 1982, HELSTAR achieved legendary status with such albums as "Burning Star" (1984),"Remnants of War" (1986),"A Distant Thunder" (1988) and "Nosferatu" (1989). After the band broke up in the early Nineties, vocalist James Rivera played in a number of groups such as VIGILANTE and NEW EDEN before reuniting with HELSTAR for the "Multiples in Back" CD in 1995. After the LP was issued, the band split up once again. Rivera subsequently released albums with the bands DISTANT THUNDER and KILLING MACHINE before joining VICIOUS RUMORS prior to the the recording of their latest album, "Warball".
